ALEXANDER GOEHR after "The Waking", Op. 101 (2018 Festival commission, US premiere)
BEETHOVEN Septet in E-flat Major, Op. 20
Beethoven’s Septet was all the rage in Vienna and throughout Europe and England—putting its creator on the map. The music is gay and bubbly, powerful and virtuosic. It’s paired with Alexander Goehr’s fantasia on a poem by Theodore Roethke.
